今回は、知っておきたいキーワードとして、「エシカル」「SDGs」「フードロス」の3つについて、一緒に考えてみましょう！

"Ethical" literally means "ethical."

ちょっとお堅い言葉ですが、つまりは「法律があるわけではないけど、良識的に考えるとこうしたほうがいいよね？」と、多くの人が考える“社会的な模範”のことです。

For example, you have the same products, A and B. A is made by a safe and environmentally friendly manufacturing method, and B is made by a method that leads to environmental pollution. From an ethical perspective, choose A.

Choosing A will help protect the environment of the production area and the health of the people who live there.

これからご紹介する「SDGs」「フードロス」も、こんなエシカルな発想が根本にあります。

“SDGs” are the goals that the world should tackle for the future such as environmental protection and elimination of the gap between rich and poor. In 2015, the United Nations set 17 goals and aims to achieve them by 2030 (*1).

Many countries and companies have chosen their goals and are committed to the world, but of course it's possible for us as individuals!

For example, Goal 12 is “Responsibility to make and use”. This is the goal of "Manufacturers make products in consideration of environmental protection and utilization of resources, and consumers should choose such products and use them with care".

Goal 12 of the SDGs is just the declaration of ethical production and consumption. Here's what we can do to become an ethical consumer!

・Buy products with little hazardous waste
・Choose products by paying attention to manufacturing methods and raw materials
・Use up ingredients without buying too much
・Send items that are no longer needed for recycling, etc.

一見すると難しそう？　いいえ、上手に実践すればエコだけでなく、ムダ遣いを減らして、すっきりシンプルに暮らす、よりよい暮らしの一歩にもなるのです。

“Food loss” is now being viewed as a problem in the world as part of “responsibility to make and use”. "Food loss" is food disposal. Ingredients and food that cannot be eaten and are discarded.

The total amount is about 1.3 billion tons per year in the world (*2). In Japan, 6.12 million tons of "food ingredients that can still be eaten" are discarded (*3). It might be hard to get an image because there are too many, but it is calculated that all Japanese people throw away a bowl of rice every day!
